Thank you to Kate’s mom for yummy donuts for her birthday treat! It was really a donut day! Dates and things to remember: --February 13th will be our Valentine Day. Please help your child bring in 20 valentines --Thank you to those who returned the form for your child to participate in Tech Night next Thursday. The class was excited to learn about it! If you can come and see all the awesome technology your child is using in class, please allow your child to demonstrate in the classroom. --Library on Monday-please return books --Winter break February 20-24- no school Standards to learn next week: Math: two step word problems/addition and subtraction Reading: retelling folktales and fairy tales; how do the characters feel? Social Studies: Georgia Hero: Martin Luther King Jr. STEM: We began to imagine and plan a new project Science: Sun, Moon, Stars, and shadows In the TTF’s Science Lab this month Mr. Giunta has been working with our students on the orbit of the sun. They built shadow trackers with card stock and used the Skyview App to record the sun’s movement throughout the day. Next week we’ll graph our data before we get started on the phases of the moon. Wow! In addition to learning, we saw and participated in awesome Falcons comradery! The class decorated the door wonderfully. Our hallway was awesome with red, white, and black streamers, balloons and signs put there by terrific teachers in our hallway. The school wore red, black and white all week to show Falcons support. We had an awesome ….almost two days! Everyone was happy to be back and share their holiday break stories. Reminders: Report cards went home on Friday. Please keep the report card, sign the envelope and send it back on Monday. The class was introduced to a new reading opportunity called Reading Counts. They can find their own reading Lexile number, books they have read, and quizzes they took on those books to earn points. They took one today, so everyone has one point. They can only take these quizzes at school. But they can take as many as they want! Every morning before the bell, and during reading time, as well as any computer time our class has. They gave a goal to themselves for reading, math and Reading Counts. Goals are good. Our Learning Standards this week: Math- Skip counting & counting back within 1,000 Reading/LA- Inferring in reading and capitalization in writing Writing- New Year Resolutions and Goals Social Studies/Science- our tree Steve Jr. in the Winter. I took a class picture to add to our Summer and Fall in our science notebook. Next Week’s Learning Standards: Math- Skip counting, counting back and comparing numbers up to 1,000 Reading/LA- Adjectives vs. adverbs, words that end in –ly, and Inferring while reading Writing- how to write a convincing opinion piece Social Studies/Science- Jackie Robinson Have a wonderful weekend. We finished the holiday tradition reports and they were so impressive! Thank you for helping at home! Thank you again to the parents who gave the class an awesome holiday celebration! Thank you again for the very nice gift cards! Today we had a great time singing holiday songs with the school and each class had a wish. The class wished everyone 365 smiles-one for every day of the year! I wish you a very happy, safe holiday and break! I’ll see the class on January 5th, 2017! Happy New Year too! Keep smiling! We said good-bye to Evie. She is moving to another school and new home. We will miss her. Dates and things to remember: Please send a jacket to school with your child. We go outside every day even for a few minutes and some days are very chilly. Also, please send a healthy snack every day. Library on Monday-please return books December 5-21--holiday tradition report. We have had some wonderful traditions shared and awesome props like cookies, trees, ornaments, measuring cups, pictures, hats, wreaths, menorahs, and great reports typed my the students and note cards too! Really excellent job! Standards to learn next week: Math: explore with graphing and surveys. Please continue to ask your child the time on an analog clock. Please practice math facts over the break if your child has not brought home a successful Z paper. Reading: know with fluency rhythm within poems and continue with informational text and main ideas. Please have your child continue to read over the break. Reading is a great habit for every day! Writing: apply nonfiction in writing and research a topic and type it. Language: Phonics-unit 16 and identify and use possessive nouns and contractions in sentences. Social Studies: how we allocate/ goods and services Science/Health: knowing healthy things for us and aware of unhealthy. We had lessons with Mrs. Dean about coding.
